Let Marine & Technology Services inspect your next boat or yacht purchase. Surveyors work for insurance companies, but we work for you!

Did you know that surveyors generally do not perform in-depth inspections of a boat’s engine and mechanical systems? The experienced mechanical and electrical engineers at Marine & Technology Services work independently to assist you in the purchase of a vessel or to provide additional inspections and reports for finance companies.

Whether you live locally or are an out-of-state buyer looking to purchase a vessel located in Southern California, let Marine & Technology Services conduct your boat’s next pre-purchase inspection and be your trained eyes and ears.

We will inspect the vessel keel to mast, forward to aft, port to starboard, and tell you if you are purchasing a fiberglass hole in the water that will divest you of your savings over the next five years. We generally find more than twice our professional fee in needed repairs, which will assist you in negotiating a better price for your next next boat purchase after our inspection is conducted.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Rates

Marine & Technology Services offers pre-purchase inspections, including a detailed written inspection and photos of the vessel, starting from $199.

  • Single outboard gasoline engine inspections are $199.
  • Single inboard gasoline engine inspections are $225.
  • Twin outboard gasoline engine inspections are $275.
  • Twin inboard gasoline engine inspections are $325.
  • Single diesel engine inspections are $325.
  • Twin diesel engine inspections are $425.

A Detailed Pre-Purchase Inspection Report

Your inspection will include, among other system checks, analyses of:

  • Engine operation
  • Transmission or drive inspection
  • Electrical system check
  • Charging system inspection
  • Plumbing system check or inspection
  • Mechanical hardware
  • Safety equipment
  • Bilge pump operations
  • Navigational lighting and horn
  • Auto-pilot
  • Electronics and GPS
  • Batteries
  • Engine alarms
  • Generator operation **
  • Engine room inspection
  • General operations
  • Fishing equipment

** Generators inspected, oil analysis and sea trials conducted for additional cost. We strongly recommend a sea trial with every inspection. Just as you would likely never purchase a new or used car without a test drive, any purchase of a boat — new or used — should include a sea trial.
